The Birthday of Lord Baden Powel
 

We are indeed proud to say that the St.Joseph’s college was the first to start the Scouts group in Trincomalee. Also the privilege was given to us to celebrate the 150th Birthday of Lord Baden Powell the father of scouts.

We are thankful to the scouts association for giving us this opportunity to celebrate this day in our college. The chief guest of this occasion was our beloved Rector Fr.Jeevanathas Fernando & the guest of honor was Mr.A.K.Vijayanathan J.P. The scouts of Trinco town schools were present at the celebration. The Primary cubs of our college stayed a dance which graced the occasion. The celebration ended with a small tea party.

 
 
 
ANNUAL SPORTS MEET – 2007
 

The annual sports meet is the most energetic event of year and it was held on the 28th of February 2007. The annual sports meet celebration was the talk of the town for it Perfection & Organization. We were indeed privileged to have Mrs.Sasithevi Jalatheepan The Divisional Secretary of Trincomalee town as our honorable chief guest, Mr.Uthayaratnam ADE of sports, as our guest of honor, Mrs.Soundrathas a retired teacher as our special guest at the event.

While the chief guest was addressing she pointed out that our college is not second to any other school in Trincomalee. She also said that the college is producing talented students in all the fields. A member of the Canadian OBA Mr.Ramesh was an unexpected guest who was amazed by the performance of our students and was in very good regard of how the school is being run at present.

This day was the proof of unity among the Josephian family. Every event was up to the mark and expectation. The drill display which filled the venue with bright colours, the kiddies’ cultural dance and the band display, indeed entertained everyone in unique manner.
     
 
     
 
     
 
     
Scholarship to Bangkok
Mr. S. Thevasahayam

Mr. S. Thevasahayam, one of our college’s enthusiastic teachers has been offered a scholarship to take part in the Training of Provincial Trainers for Social Studies in the English Medium which is to be held in AIT, Bangkok, Thailand.

The Training commences on 18th October 2004, continues for three months and concludes on 08th January 2005. Three teachers were selected from each province and altogether twenty-seven teachers from Sri Lanka are participating in this training program.

We congratulate Mr. S. Thevasahayam and wish him all success.

 
 
Felicitation Dinner

The old Boys’ Association of St. Joseph’s College, Trincomalee feted the College Senior Football team which annexed the All Island Football Championship in 2004 and three students of the College who merited entry to the Medical faculty this year. Hon. R. Sampanthan, M. P. for Trincomalee District and a distinguished old boy of the College was the Chief Guest.

Mr. O. L. M. Ismail, a leading senior lawyer of Trincomalee and the senior vice President of the O. B. A. chaired the meeting in the absence of Rev. Fr. Jeevanadas Fernando, the President of the O. B. A. being unable to attend the function. In his welcome address Mr. Ismail related some incidents during his studentship at the College. He also spoke of his relationship with Mr. Sampanthan both as members of the Trincomalee bar and as fellow past students of the College the Chief Guest in his reply congratulated the champion football team and the three Medical faculty entrants. He narrated some interesting incidents during his school days and remembered his former Principal Rev. Fr. Theisen with gratitude. In passing, he mentioned that a lot of people, including old and present boys of the College, ware not aware af the fact that he was old Josephian. He expressed his regret that even the present administration of the College did not communicate with him, probably they too were not aware of this fact. Mr. Sampanthan further said that he had his duty to the college as a past student and that he would assist the College substantially if and when requests were made for his assistance. Presents were awarded to the three successful students and the officers and players of the Champion Football team.

This was followed by a Dinner at the College library to all invitees and old boys present.
